6 Warning Indicators It’s Time to Replace Your Air Conditioner

For
years your air conditioner has been keeping you cool during sizzling summers.
It’s lifespan has now ended and it’s time to purchase a new one. Energy bills that are rising are due to the
inefficiency and aging factor of your AC. Your air conditioner has become
inefficient. The insulation may be bad, there may be air leaks, the filters may
be clogged and need to be changed, or there may be thermostat issues.

On the other hand, frequent malfunctions could be a result of wear
and tear, especially if your AC system is an older model. Also, oversized and
undersized AC units may not cool efficiently. Regular professional service is
required, however if you are repeatedly calling a repair company, your costs
will go up and it would be beneficial that you look into, and purchase, a new
AC system.

Here
are six signs that will indicate your AC is not performing the task and is in
need of replacement:

  1. Age of AC: Usually the lifespan for an air conditioner is 10-15 years.
If you have had your system for that period of time, at this point you should
prepare for a replacement option. There are several types of AC’s available. The newer model AC’s are energy-efficient and
may save you money long term. If your AC keeps braking down, you may want to
    look into a substitute model.
  2. Increase in Energy Bill Charges: If you are receiving increased energy bills
and you are not using your AC more than usual, this may be an indicator that
your AC has become inefficient and needs to be replaced. An upgrade to a new AC
will provide significant savings that will appear on your utility bill. There
are many models available. You should contact your local AC company to receive
    a quote.
  3. Cooling Performance: The weather may be getting hot and your air conditioner
may be struggling to cool your home or it may take longer to provide you will
cool air. In the case where your AC will not reach the desired cooling
temperature, that will be an indication that it’s time to invest in a better
performing system. Many models are more efficient and consume less energy.
  4. Repairs That Are Frequent: After some time your AC may need constant attention.
There may be breakdown and filter issues. If you need to consistently request
repairs to your AC model, it is evident that your machine may stop working
altogether. It would be better to purchase a new cost-effective air conditioner
    in that case.
  5. Noise and Odor: Sounds such as rattling, banging or grinding are an indication
that your equipment has serious mechanical problems. If after changing the
filter of your machine you have odors coming from your AC unit, it may be a
sign of mold and mildew within your AC. The air quality in your space may
become unbearable and indicate that your AC needs to be replaced rapidly.
Contact your local AC supplier for a quote.
  6. Technology that is Outdated: HVAC advanced technologies become available
regularly and are more efficient. Many older AC units cannot be revised, or
repaired or upgraded. Environmentally friendly newer AC systems can provide
such things as smart thermostats, variable-speed compressors, and provide specific
zoning capabilities. This will help with the efficiency of your AC unit and supply
you with better air quality and performance.

One
of the most important and crucial components of your air conditioner is the
refrigerant. If you are
experiencing leaks in refrigerant, your system will be in need of replacement.
The leaks may result due to worn out coils and corrosion. Refrigerant leaks may be one of the reasons your AC may be
damaged. An HVAC technician would be able to diagnose and determine the issue and
recommend a solution.

If
you are in need of frequent AC repairs it may be a sign that your equipment is
aging and in need of replacement. Usually the unit will become inefficient and
will require continuous repairs as it gets older. In this case the solution
would be to purchase a new cost-effective AC unit. Ensure that you consult your
HVAC specialist if you experience any of the above 6 warning signs. By investing in a new air conditioner you will be contributing to a greener future!
